Reopening of the Children's Library

Blutenburg Castle

The International Children's Library of the International Youth Library Foundation has been in use for forty years without any structural changes. It was time to renovate the lending library in the former stables of Blutenburg Castle, which is popular with children and families. The remodeling was based on plans drawn up by a group of students from the Technical University of Munich.

Now that the renovation has been completed, the beautiful historic room has been given a new life with walk-in, child-friendly shelving that invites you to spend more time there. Hidden niches are ideal for browsing, stairs lead up to the books placed high under the ceiling and there is more space for readings, book clubs and craft activities.

After being closed for six months, the completely renovated children's library will reopen. We are preparing a program of readings and activities, but there will also be plenty of time to simply rediscover the children's library, browse, read and borrow books. Among others, we are expecting Paul Maar, the author of "Sams", as well as Sabine Bohlmann, the author of "Ein Mädchen namens Willow" and "Frau Honig" and the Chilean author María José Ferrada.

Admission is free.

The renovation is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
