Panel Discussion (German/English)

Soviet past in the Baltic children's literatures

Frankfurt Book Bookfair
Weltempfang Hall 3.1

The current children’s literatures of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania seem to have an intensified focus on the Soviet past and its legacy in the independent Baltic states. Why are books that examine the Soviet past and books of remembrance appearing now? Has the growing historical distance something to do with it or does the current situation in Ukraine affect the Baltic children’s book scene?

On the discussion panel are:
Dace Bargā (Latvia)
Kätlin Kaldmaa (Estonia)
Justinas Žilinskas (Lithuania)
with
Katja Wiebe (International Youth Library + ViVaVostok)

The panel discussions takes place in English and will be translated into German.

Sponsored by ViVaVostok – a program by Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with the International Youth Library.
