Multilingualism in picture books still plays a negligible role within the German speaking book market. Reflecting the immense migration movement, the panel discusses about the impact on multilingual children’s literature. Is the comparatively small market about to change? Why is a story printed in a two language or multi language version, but not monolingual? Which intercultural potential can be offered by multilingual picture books? Is the attempt to achieve more than merely linguistic competence or have multilingual picture books the ability to contribute to integration?
On the panel:
Sonja Matheson, Director of Baobab Books, Switzerland
Ulrich Störiko-Blume, Literary agent, Germany
Moderation:
Dr. Christiane Raabe, Director of the International Youth Library
